![]() ![]() Many artists emphasize individuality and being who you want to be, yet they don’t really show their own unique qualities. It speaks to everyone having their own unique ‘look’ or style and that we should be accepting of that. Pointing to the people surrounding her on every cadence of ‘It’s a look’ really resonated with me because I think that song captures her entire essence. ![]() On multiple occasions Leikeli47 went into the crowd herself, most notably through ‘Look’ (off of her first album “Wash & Wet”). A little later while rapping ‘Girl Blunt’, she called on some weed smoking girls to come up and stand in as living renditions of the song being performed. She invited a few individuals on stage during ‘Post That’, who proceeded to twerk and flash some salacious moves. The audience became a part of the show almost as much as Leikeli47 was. From the onset she engaged the crowd with thanks and appreciation for being there. On stage she exhibited a very outgoing, friendly, and playful personality that was a joy to witness. ![]() I quickly discovered, however, that despite the closed off and shielded appearance that Leikeli47 presents, her music and performance was quite the opposite. ![]() At first impression, the outfit gave a very intimidating vibe yet it only made my anticipation grow as to how her set will be. Leikeli47 arrived on stage donning her signature black bandana face-mask, an “Acrylic” tour sweatshirt, and sweatpants (mind you it’s at least 80 degrees inside the courtyard). The up and coming female rapper from Brooklyn, NY peeked my interest during my preparation for the festival, so I decided to catch her set at Cedar Street Courtyard to break in my 2019 SXSW. She is on her debut headlining “Acrylic” tour this year and stopped through ‘South By’ to perform a slew of shows for the week in Austin. One such artist goes by the name of Leikeli47.
